For the past five years, the Sunshine Coast Community Gala Awards have stood as a beacon of recognition for the unsung heroes who make our region shine. From selfless individuals to passionate groups and organisations, these awards honour the quiet achievers who dedicate their time, compassion, and energy to creating meaningful impact. What began as a vision to give thanks has grown into a tradition that uplifts those who uplift us all.

Each year, the Gala brings together the very best of our community — not just to celebrate achievements, but to strengthen the bonds that make the Sunshine Coast unique. Businesses, organisations, and everyday people stand shoulder to shoulder, supporting one another and fostering connections that turn into lasting friendships. These relationships, built year after year, form the foundation of a society that thrives on unity, care, and collaboration.

As we celebrate this milestone, we are reminded of how lucky we are to live in paradise, surrounded by people who are as proud as they are compassionate. The Gala is more than an event; it’s a reflection of who we are — a caring, connected, and resilient community that wants good people to thrive. Five years in, our momentum is unstoppable, and together, we are building a brighter, stronger, and even more united Sunshine Coast.

Danielle Lenon - The Soul Behind the Scene

I am the founder of The Lavender Sky Foundation and a passionate advocate for inclusion, wellbeing, and community connection. Over the past several years I have created and led programs that empower people of all abilities to participate fully in sport, education, and community life.

Through Connect Rugby League, I established the Sunshine Coast’s first all-abilities rugby league program, giving children, young people, and adults with disability the opportunity to play, belong, and be recognised as valued members of their local clubs. Building on this, I have continued to expand inclusive sport opportunities across Queensland in partnership with community clubs, councils, and organisations.

Beyond sport, I founded The Lavender Sky Foundation to address broader challenges in disability support and mental health. Our work reduces isolation, builds social connections, and ensures people and families have access to the resources they need.

I also host the No Capes, No Limits podcast, sharing real stories of inclusion, adversity, and resilience, while celebrating the voices of carers, individuals, and community leaders who are making a difference.

My passion for establishing the Sunshine Coast Community Gala and Awards comes from a deep belief in celebrating and recognising the everyday heroes in our community.

These awards are about honouring the individuals, organisations, and businesses whose kindness, innovation, and dedication strengthen the fabric of our region. They are designed to build community connection, foster collaboration, and shine a spotlight on those who lead by example, creating a stronger and more inclusive Sunshine Coast for all.

Everything I do is driven by the belief that kindness in action creates lasting impact — from the playing field, to the classroom, to the wider community. My mission is to break down barriers, create spaces of belonging, and ensure that every person has the opportunity to thrive.
